Your Internet Marketing Toolbox

Your Internet Marketing Toolbox

Most every home has at least some basic tools, like a hammer and a couple of screwdrivers to hang pictures on the wall and to do some basic assembly of items we buy at the store. Many of us have accumulated entire toolboxes that give you more flexibility in handling odd handyman jobs that may be required around the house, like fixing a leaky faucet.

Toolboxes differ between trades. Carpenters have portable toolboxes where they carry hammers, nails, measuring tapes, rasps and planes. Mechanics, on the other hand, have metal toolboxes with small drawers for wrenches, files, and testing tools. Gardeners may have wooden toolboxes to carry clippers, scissors, gloves, fertilizer, and small shovels.

Internet marketers also have toolboxes and the better equiped the toolbox is, the better prepared the marketer will be to handle odd jobs.

Tools For Internet Marketing

If you are a photographer, or a homebuilder, or even a woodworker, you may have noticed the yearly special magazine issues featuring the top tools for the year. When you look through one of those magazines, you realize that the tools are separated by categories, and that the magazine is picking the top product from each category.

If you want to develop a basic list of the tools that you need for your hobby or trade, just look at one of the Top Tools of The Year magazines and make a list of the categories.

When you study internet marketing, you go through a period of overwhelm. You hear all the inflated claims to buy certain products, or scripts, or to subscribe to certain services with the promise that everything you need to succeed online is to buy that product. The truth is usually that the product that they are selling may just be a tool that may or may not belong in your toolbox. Tools don’t make you rich, it is the work you do that brings profits.

Only you know what your work online should be, and your unique ideas will be the ones that make a difference between success and failure. All the products you buy to help you with a particular part of your business could be considered tools that you are using to reach your goals.

Basic Internet Marketing Tools

Based on my previous definition of what you could consider a tool, this list could get quite extensive, but I will try to limit myself to the tools that I would recommend for everyone in internet marketing:

  1. An HTML editor. It could be as simple as using the Notepad program that comes with windows, but there are more powerful free versions, like Komposer, or you could use the top of the line paid versions, like Dreamweaver.
  2. Screen-Capture software. There are two types, the type that captures still images, which I consider as essential as and HTML editor; I use Snagit, which is a paid product, but there are free versions. And the type that records what is happening on the screen to create a video; this is not essential unless you are interested in video marketing; I use Camtasia Studio, which is a paid product, but there are also free versions.
  3. An Image Editor. Even if all you do with an image editor is crop a picture or reduce the size, you will improve the performance of your website by reducing the size of your graphic files.

These are, without doubt, the basic internet marketing tools I use the most. I’m sure you have your own favorite tools. Consider adding some of these to your internet marketing toolbox.
