List Building and Email Marketing
It is amazing to realize how hard it is for a beginning marketer to grasp the importance of building a list. If they are lucky, it will hit on about the third year of being online, but even then their efforts are lacking and their results meager.
But even when they do get the message, they seem to go into a fog and forget the connection between list building and email marketing.
I have done it too. I have concentrated so hard on creating a good network of opt-in pages, that I completely put aside the writing of the emails. The results were that I had to trash my list, because the leads were now cold.
Building a Responsive List
To begin with, the quality of the incentive you offer for people to give you their names and email addresses will determine the original responsiveness of your list. That responsiveness doesnt last forever, even for top marketers, but you can keep it high by staying in constant communication with your members.
The money is in the list and in keeping in touch with your list. As people have said, the phone book is a list too, but even professional telemarketers have a hard time squeezing customers out of such a list.
Suppose that you offer a free report in exchange for a lead. You create a very attractive squeeze page with a very strong call to action and breathtaking graphics, but you forget to connect the squeeze page with your name. When your prospect finally checks his emails, he will see what looks like spam from an unknown and weird name blasting emails to him or her for no known reason. How responsive could that prospect be? But you can identify yourself, either on the original squeeze page or on the landing page where they go immediately after they enter their data in the opt-in form.
Equate Email Marketing with Keeping In Touch
Our entire business success is based on building relationships. The stronger your relationship with your customers, more likely they are to do repeat business with you.
There are marketers from which I have bought every product they have produced, or at least every product I could afford at the time. There are also marketers that get so used to selling from their homes that they forget to maintain business etiquette and propriety and lose faithful customers including me.
Keep in touch with your customers to build upon the relationship you already have established with them. Be proper. Remember the proverb, Evil communications corrupt good morals.
From List Building to Email Marketing
List building takes effort. It takes so much effort, that it is easy to want to take a break from it before you go on to the next step. But if you dont start with the end in mind, you will let your list go cold like hundreds or even thousands of marketers have done.
The best way to make the transition is to start at the end first. That is, start by creating your first few emails, not just one email, but seven to twelve, at least. Even more emails, if possible. Once you have your autoresponder series ready, then it is time to create your opt-in page. Afterwards, all you have to do is promote the opt-in and your system is built.
Once you take a break from creating all your opt-in pages to lead to autoresponder series, it is time to start a broadcasting schedule. You dont want to rely on your original emails. Things change quickly online and you want to send fresh messages to your members at regular intervals.
