Interviewing Experts as Content Creation
I have gotten into the habit of analyzing tv shows and podcasts where they interview experts. That simple observation has taught me a lot about the way the content is created. I discovered the podcasts from a British artist that are superior to most professional reporters interviews.
As internet marketers, we are interested in content and product creation, and the advent podcasts and of video podcasts is a venue that only a handful of internet marketers are using as the platform for interviewing experts.
Teleconferences and webinars are the most common ways to interview experts and they have the advantage that they can be recorded and used to create products and content. In fact, they can be used to create podcasts and video podcasts.
Starting With Content Creation
Anytime I have a featured a friend on any of my websites, they want the URL to send it out and let everyone know about it. There is a sense of pride when someone thinks enough of you to put you in one of your publications.
I used to work in the newspaper industry. Time and time again I saw people buying stacks of newspapers to hand out to all their family members because their picture had appeared somewhere in the paper. Often, people would come to the newspaper office and order copies of the pictures that appeared in the articles.
If you are just getting started interviewing experts, it is better to use the interviews as content for your websites, or to use as a means to drive traffic to your website, rather than to use the interviews for product creation.
The logic is that you should get through the learning curve before you do interviews, particularly video interview, for paid products. It is very flattering to be treated as an expert, even if you are just being asked your favorite recipe. But if you tell the person that you want to do a video interview of them cooking their favorite recipe and that you want their permission to sell that interview in a series, they may not be as flattered, unless you already have a track record.
Interviewing Experts To Drive Traffic
Video interviews are a great way to drive traffic to a website. Supose that you receive notice that a certain internet marketer is going to be launching a product on a certain date. You could ask a marketer to let you interview him, so that you can use the interview in video sharing sites to drive traffic to the offer as an affiliate. The expert marketer would be more than a fool if he or she did not agree to the interview, even if you spit and spatter when you talk.
Video podcasts are also becoming popular, and it is a great way to get ongoing traffic to your website or offer.
You can also add the video to your own website, and even offer a copy of the interview as a pdf manuscript.
Sharing The Interview With The Expert
Dont forget this final and extremely important step. Give the expert full rights to the content you created, just like you have.
Create the right kind of relationship and you can later have an even more enthusiastic partner when it is time to create paid products.
