Create Your Own Opt-in Template
I was recently visiting my mother who was ill, and while I was there I had to take her to the hospital for emergency treatment. I changed my return flight to be able to spend a few extra days with her, but my mind was so busy with doctors and medicines that it wasnt until I started getting ready one morning that I realized I didnt have any more clean clothes.
I quickly thought of the old closet I shared with my brother and found some of my nephews clothes there. I was able to dress and get someone to have my clothes washed and ironed. That entire day I was pulling and tucking trying to feel comfortable in the clothes, but even getting used to the difference in style was hard for me.
The same can be said of using optin templates, unless you tailor them to your own needs, they will feel like you are wearing someone elses clothe.
Use Templates as a Point of Departure
I get all the templates I can get, and not only the free ones, but I scan through them to pick and chose elements that I like to make my own template.
Sometimes you may find an image, or an icon, or a text style that you like. At other times you may find particular wording or disclaimers that you like and can edit to make them appropriate to your sites.
Study Optin Pages From Other Marketers
It is also good to study and follow actual optin pages to see how different marketers route prospects through different pages after they have entered their names and email addresses. Get ideas of whether to send your new subscribers to Stop Pages (that say something like, You will receive an email with a confirmation link... ), or to a Thank-You Page (that says, Thank you for subscribing, and may include a bonus that is actually Integrated Marketing from another marketer), or to an Offer Page (it can be a One-Time-Offer Page, or an upsell to the free product, or even a membership offer).
Create Your Own Optin Templates
In fact, you should create your own optin system, which includes not only your optin pages, but also the pages to which you will route your visitors after they have entered their infomation.
It is better to create templates for the various pages at the same time so that you can be careful to follow the same theme to make your subscribers feel like they already know the road.
Create Many Optin Pages From Your Optin Templates
If you were selling magazines and wanted readers to subscribe, you wouldnt just put subscription forms on your January issue. You would put subscription form on every single issue and in many forms. You would also put them on every page of your website. Visit any major magazines website and see how they do it.
I have seen magazines that have a variety of subscription forms. Some of them are loose inserts that you can fill out and put in the mail. Others are perforated cards stuck to the binding of the magazine that you can tear out and mail. Both of these cards come with bulk mail stamps to make it easier for a subscriber to mail. There may also be a final subscription form that is the traditional form magazines have always used, where you fill your information, clip the form, put it in an envelop, stamp it and mail it. Magazines still do this in case the inserts have already fallen or been removed before their true prospect reads the issue.
Of course, nowadays you are also encouraged to visit their website and do everything quickly online, or to call and subscribe by telephone.
The idea is to create as many ways to optin as possible. Dont think that just because you have an optin form on your index page you will start getting hundreds of subscribers each month. Dont be satisfied with only having one subscription for in your January issue. Turn your website and other marketing efforts into a lead-capture system.
