How To Build A Website

Website Template
Build a website to build your business. In this section we will discuss the tools required to build a website; our interest, however, is not not so much in generating web pages, but in creating and eGrowing a business. Keep that in mind and you will move quickly beyond the mechanics of web design.

As a professional marketer, I have a quite a few websites. I recently heard a boastful internet marketer say that he makes $20,000/month from his websites. In an earlier statement, he had also said that he owed over 1,200 websites. Though he is making a tidy profit, if you study both statements together, you realize he is making less that $20/month per website. When you consider the cost of hosting, advertising, and time spent on each of those sites, we are left wondering what the actual profits may be.

Whether you know how to build a website or not, you can buy mini sites and make a living with them, but you need a lot of them and they do demand a lot of attention. Eventually, they may limit your growth. Search engines are not likely to find them. It is absurd to spend all your effort doing SEO on a mini site, when you could build a website that has true substance and that can help you create a real business. Each page of a true website is a mini site in itself, but it has substance, it has relevance, it can be optimized for free traffic, it can be linked to and from authority sites.

Your main traffic strategy with a mini site is paid traffic, such as a pay-per-click campaign. That can be a costly learning curve for someone that is starting out, and may not show any return for a long time.

There are dozens of different ways to build a website. After all, a website is nothing more than a collection of pages that contain text, graphics, hyperlinks, and, sometimes, voice and video. When you build a website, you make web page just as you would create a page for a book or a newspaper. You may begin with a page layout program. In fact, the same programs being used for print, are now beginning to include options to create web pages, as shown on the illustration above. Many hosting companies also have built-in tools (c-panels) to help you create web pages quickly without the learning curve needed by the more specialized programs.

I would say without hesitation, that if you want to build a website from scratch in order to have an internet business, and if you have a very low budget, your only prudent option is to build a website through Site Build It .

Site Build It combines all the separate tools listed below and has one of the most comprehensive video training libraries ever developed. Their system is been taught in many universities and the students graduate with their own internet businesses, not just with websites.

It may seem strange that I would recommend a system that does not offer the cheapest hosting or page creation software. But what it does offer is all tools and training you will need to create your own business. The only other thing that you need is to be blind to everything else that tries to entice you and get your money. Not only does Site Build It save you money by including all the tools listed below and many more, but it also saves you money in training you may otherwise get from self-proclaimed internet gurus. I wish I could convince newbies with low budgets that, in the long run, this is the cheapest and safest way to get started in order to develop true success.

Here Are The Basic Tools That You Need To Get Started:

  • An Internet Service Provider (ISP):

At the risk of being too basic, this is the local service that gives you access to the internet through dial-up, dsl, or cable.
  • A Domain Name:

Someone could start a new soft drink company and name its main product something like "Coke Cola," but it wouldn't be long before that person got stopped. Even if he hides with Bin Laden, they will stop him. By the same token, you have to research the name you want to give your website to see if someone already has rights to it or not. You will often find that even if a website with that name doesn't exist, that someone has already bought the rights to that name. To register a Domain Name, I recommend using GoDaddy.
  • A Web Host:

This is the place where your website actually resides (i.e. not on your own computer). Your ISP may also provide hosting, but there are some good companies that you can find by searching the internet. Hosting services vary in price according to the demands made by your visitors on the service (bandwidth). If you have a lot of video on your website, your hosting costs will be much higher than if you only had text and graphics. You may want to check out the unlimited Domain Hosting offered by Hostgator for only $9.95 a month.
  • An HTML Editor:

This may be available through your hosting company, or it can be a simple text program, or it can even be an elaborate web development program. You may like the simplicity of what the hosting company provides. I prefer Dreamweaver, which is the top web development program at this time.
  • A Blog:

Blogs are becoming increasingly more popular. They can help your SEO. You can start a blog quickly and add fresh content on a daily or weekly basis. It is best to have your blog as part of your own website. A Word Press blog provides the greatest flexibility and is the one most often recommended, though some studies have shown that http://www.Blogger.com can outperform Word Press in some SEO niches.
  • An Autoresponder:

This is a program that serves as a virtual assistant and answers your emails at any time of the day or night. It can even send broadcast emails to your list on predefined dates and times. You can either subscribe to a service like AWeber , or buy a program.
  • Keyword Research Tool:

To have a successful website, you need to study what people need and then you try to provide that service. On the internet, it is easy to discover what people are looking for by studying the keywords they type on the search engines. The best tool I know for this is Keyword Elite . There is also and excellent program within Site Build It called, BrainstormIt.
  • Search Engine Optimization (SEO):

The next step beyond keyword research is SEO research to optimize your site and make it easy for search engines to find. The best tool for that is SEO Elite .
