I really appreciate a phrase that Brian Tracy repeats often, and I like to repeat it too, If you do what successful people do, you will get the results that successful people get. The secret of your success may lie on learning what successful people are doing and what they are avoiding. It is that simple!
In fact, the Internet marketing mistakes that successful marketers avoid can reveal a lot about what they actually do. Here are a few of those mistakes to avoid:
Having No Definite Plan
This has to be most common internet marketing mistake. There is a proverb that says, For lack of a skillful strategy and army is lost, but victory is the result of long planning.
If you dont have a plan, you are like a weather vane, going in whatever direction the winds blow that day. You get an email about a new social media tool that is making someone rich, and you use the rent money to buy that tool, convinced that you will make the money back in a week or two, just to find yourself back at square one (having to learn a new tool and a new technique that youll never get to use before the next wind blows).
I remember the orientation week of my first professional job. I was given a manual to learn to use a piece of software and a day later they gave me two thick manuals to learn about the how to work on the company projects. I protested and said that I had not have enough time or a computer to really learn to use the software they wanted me to learn. Almost 30 years later, I still remember what my boss said, The software is a tool we use, these manuals are the work we do.
Without a plan, you will be jumping from tool to tool, rather than follow your pre-determined purpose as an internet marketer.
Not Making Offers
If you dont have any offers, you dont really have any conversions. If you dont have any conversions, you are not making any money!
The saying, Content is King, can only be true when the content frames or is framed by an offer. If you are marketing anything online, then content should be used as a means to drive traffic to an offer.
In my own planning, I use the image of Greek building with columns that represent the various aspects of my business, but the foundation of the entire building is Offers.
Following After Many Things
Another proverb that has given me clarity throughout the years is, If you follow after many things, you will catch none! There is also a variation to that proverb that says, If you embrace a lot, you will have very little power to squeeze.
My aunt used to raise chickens. I remember as a child sneaking into the fenced area where the chickens were and running after them waiving my arms like a windmill, screaming and making as much noise as I could to hide my fear. The chickens all ran in different directions and I could never grab hold of a single one.
Internet marketing is not just similar, it is exactly like that: every tool, every technique, and every means to drive traffic runs in a different direction. Your job is to round up one thing at a time and fence it in into your plan. You only need to grab the chickens you can manage.
Having Itching Ears
Anything that you learn, whether it is drawing or internet marketing, reaches a saturation point. It is like trying to overeat a savory meal when you are already fed up. It doesnt mean that you are never going to eat again, it just means that you had sufficient food for that day.
That is the point that brings you to take action. Adults seem to take longer to reach that point. Teach a child how to draw a cat and you will find cats on the refrigerator door, on napkins, and even on the walls. Teach an adult to do article marketing and they think it is time to learn SEO; teach them SEO and theyll think is time to learn copywriting; and theyll seldom get to write an article.
This attitude of constantly looking for something new is what is called in scriptures, having itching ears. It also said this way, They are ever learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
Not Taking Action
Success starts with planning and ends with action.
That is how you achieve the knowledge of the truth, by taking action on what you know; even if the knowledge seems still cloudy; even if your drawing of the cat is not identical to what your model.
Remember, then, to avoid these Internet marketing mistakes: not planning, not offering, not focusing, not knowing, and not acting.
Keep drawings your cats and paste them everywhere you can; you will soon be drawing tigers.
